“Opening Ceremony” of my Philips Airfryer

Been extremely busy lately ever since Hazel goes to childcare. I have to spend quality time with her every evening. My personal time only comes after she’s asleep.

One evening when Hazel was asleep, I decided to try using this Philips Airfryer from the HumSupGroup girls who have bought for me as a housewarming gift, despite I didn’t hold any housewarming party for my new place. I guess this is what thoughtful friends are all about?

So I did a “opening ceremony” for this kitchen new toy.

The airfryer is kind of fat and occupies quite abit of space on my kitchen table top. I was pretty surprised using it is EASY!

Just two buttons to set, one for temperature and one for duration! It’s really all about trial error because I seriously had no idea what temperature to set for my frozen Japanese Crispy Gyoza nuggets from CP Foods Singapore.

I browsed through the little recipe book which came  with the airfryer and decided on,

180 degree C
10 minutes

Before airfrying…

I was thinking since the gyoza would have fillings which obviously had been marinated with some bit of oil, there was no need for me to add a single drop of oil. For some food, a tiny bit of oil is recommended even though it is an AIR-fryer.

After 10 mins of waiting….

I wasn’t sure if the gyoza nuggets were fully cooked, but the colour looked okay to me.

I must had been lucky, they were cooked! They were as crispy as the traditional-fried ones! Smell yummy too! Perhaps a little too dry on the inside. I airfried the 2nd batch for 8 minutes, oops, and the skin was only crispy on one side. Shall try 9 minutes next time!

Let the hubby tried the nuggets and he said not bad! Yay! Finally some decent food that I can cooked for my family, though it’s “machine-cooked”.

But too much of these fried food is not good for the face. I’ll need proper skincare to protect my face!

Ever since Hazel was born, I hardly have the chance to let my face go through the complete skincare regimen that I used to have.

One of my favourite skincare brand is SK-II SIngapore.

I used to be a die-hard fan for their whitening and anti-aging range! (Some of the items may not be in production already) But now due to time-constraint, I’m using lesser and lesser than before… sobs at my poor face.

My very basic items are essence, moisturizer, sunblock. My favourite will be the essence. I have been using the miracle essence (Facial Treatment Essence) from SK-II since mid 20s and have been loving it! Most people whined to me on the smell. But I’m neutral on that. I am more particular about the absorption and the bouncy cheeks effect. I am also enjoying the radiance I have from using it. My face reacts very well to the Facial Treatment Essence, unlike others who have breakouts from using it.

My second favourite essence is the Facial Treatment Repair C! The gel-like texture feels rich on my face, so I usually use less than a full pump. Anyway it’s a small bottle and not cheap, I can’t possible finish it within a month, I will be so broke.

If I have the extra time, I will want to add in the whitening range. I used to use their Whitening Souce Derm Definition for my freckles and noticed some visible results, but I think this is no longer in production. They have this Whitening Power Spots Specialist, I didn’t have the chance to try yet, anyway I doubt I have the time to include this step in my super basic skincare regimen. Oh well. Still, shall add this to my wish list.

Another important skincare item is the mask! The highly raved Facial Treatment Mask is said to hold loads of miracle essence! I used it a few times when I was younger. The feeling was more than “shiok”. My face got instant brightened up, with a glow! Maybe I should get this for myself on this Mother’s day?

Mother’s Day is a more than a PH to us, it is a day just for us and we truly deserve a break on this day, maybe shopping, or something simple (yet hard to have it) like taking a long shower with no one banging on the door rushing us to come out.

For me, I want to have a day indulging myself with skincare.

Ending this blogpost with a Mother’s day card from Hazel who did it (with help from teachers of course) in school.

Perhaps Hazel’s effort came from the leaves of the flower. The leaves look like her fingerprints!
The school also prepared a tub of jelly for her to present to me. Sweet ya! The photo of my carrying her (when she’s like 2-3mo) was customized into a fridge magnet by Pixaroll.

I’m going to put up this card together with the magnet on my fridge!

Happy Mother’s day to me!

Being pregnant is like serving the National Service. After having the baby bump for 10 months, the mother has to go for reservist. But this reservist is a lifetime kind. Mothers are forever worrying about their children, no matter how old the children are.

[Food Tasting Event] French Cakes From Le Gateau Maison At Pasta De Waraku

Was invited for a food tasting event at Paste de Waraku! Gosh, it’s been a long long time since I saw the restaurant! I didn’t realize there’s an outlet at Novena Square 2! icon_razz

The place was neat and cool, though a little small and might get overcrowded on weekends.

And so my food tasting session with two savory pizza!

Scallop and Prawn with Tartar sauce

It was love at first taste!Scallop and Prawns were fresh and sweet, overdosed with tartar sauce and cheese. Not to forget the crispy pizza crust!

Medium SGD14.80
Large SGD16.80

Takoyaki with Okonomi sauce

I wasn’t impressed with the Japanese ginger, never a fan of ginger. But the Okonomi sauce definitely went well with the meatballs.

Medium SGD14.80
Large SGD16.80

Cakes were the main star of this food tasting event. Never heard of Pasta de Waraku bringing in French cakes from Le Gateau Maison, France?

Well, they do, now.

Hot favourite of the day, Noisette

It’s all about chocolate, dark chocolate and hazelnut in mousse. The overall taste was up to my expectation even though I wasn’t a fan of mousse in cakes.

It’s a must to order this if you have sweet tooth like me.

Another piece of chocolate cake, Cerises

This was full of chocolate sponge and white chocolate mousse, but the mousse was a tad too much for my liking. But I was impressed how the cherries were added inside the layers.

Mango lovers like me, you’ll love this, Anushka!

Fresh mango slices on top layer, mango mousse, mango filling, almond dacquoise on the intermediate layers. Every layers in the slice are carefully made.

It’s another must-try on the menu!

There many other cakes which I wanted to try but they were “out of stock” and so I decided to order the only pink/red cake available that day,

I like the vanilla sponge, but not the whipped cream. blahahaStrawberries and blueberries were good, and did a good job in beautifying the cake.

Last piece which I tried,

Doux Reves

Chocolate and banana never goes wrong. This cake was made of chocolate sponge, almond dacquoise, dark chocolate caramel mousse, banana mousse and a gold silvery glaze on the top layer.

Paste De Waraku actually has more cakes from Gateau Maison!

Gateau Maison cakes are also available in slices, at SGD8.50 per slice.

[Food Tasting Event] Lee Kum Kee

Lee Kum Kee launches first-ever Teriyaki Marinade and new packaging for its Tomato Ketchup that allows you to have fun creating instant food art!

I had a fun-filled time with Lee Kum Kee, learning cooking skills from Chef Rayner, who has previously worked with Michelin-starred Chef Joël Robuchon at L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Resorts World Sentosa.

I was taught 3 recipes using Lee Kum Kee Teriyaki Marinade to whoop up a yummy meal, and using the Lee Kum Kee Tomato Ketchup to create motif on food.

About Kum Kee Teriyaki Marinade, $3.70

Lee Kum Kee Teriyaki Marinade is filled with white toasted sesame seeds and no preservatives is added.

We have many local delights that use sesame seeds as ganish to enhance flavouring. So having sesame seeds inside the teriyaki marinade will definitely not goes wrong. Teriyaki sauce marry well with meat, can be used to make yakitori and teriyaki grilled meat.

Lee Kum Kee Teriyaki Marinade has it all.

Inorder to suit Singaporeans who are going on a healthy lifestyle, Lee Kum Kee has not added any preservatives to the marinade. It’s ideal for marinating and basting purposes.

Can also be used as a dipping sauce! My favourite!

Also, it’s Halal, everyone of us can enjoy it. We can even come up with yummy dishes and share some with our neighbours!

About Lee Kum Kee Tomato Ketchup, $1.25

Lee Kum Kee has repackaged their tomato ketchup. There are two types of bottles, a boy and a girl. These kiddy bottles are meant to catch the attention of our little ones, to get them involve in preparing their own meals.

The ketchup can be easily squeezed out from the bottles, allowing parents and their kids to get into creativity in food art!

Food art can be like creating a simple heart shape, polka dots, outline of a cartoon character, or even their names!

My favourite character, Rilakkuma! luvLee Kum Kee Tomato Ketchup contains no preservatives and no artificial flavouring, suitable for kids. It’s Halal too.

The size of the bottles are lightweight and portable, very convenient to bring out to picnics. I shall try it one day for picnic with my girl!

Back at my cooking class with Chef, the first dish he whooped up was,

Grilled Teriyaki Meat Kebabs (Yakitori)

Minced chicken and chicken soft bones were used here. Chef Rayner combined the meat with all the ingredients (Let me know if you want to know the ingredients) including Lee Kum Kee Teriyaki Marinade, mixed everything before portioning the meat equally for threading onto skewers.

Tsukune were then grilled for a few minutes per side, followed by glazing which was made of Lee Kum Kee Teriyaki Marinade and mirin.

Last step was to heat up the tsukune in oven for another few minutes and voila, we’re done!

And the tsukune was served with Lee Kum Kee Tomato Ketchup, toasted sesame seeds and spring onions.

So easy right? Perhaps I should invest on a oven for my new place.

Garlic Teriyaki Fried Rice

Chef Rayner demonstrated to us how to make a bento for love ones using Lee Kum Kee Teriyaki Marinade.

From what I saw, fried rice was easy, it’s the chopping of ingredients that would be time consuming for me. So much decor was required for a bento!

For the decor, ensure the veg are all cut into the desired shapes. Boil/cook them well and keep them aside to cool down.

Chicken thigh was used in the demonstration. Chicken thigh was marinated with Lee Kum Kee Teriyaki Marinade and abit of soy sauce. It was then baked followed by dicing the chicken thigh into cubes.

Egg was added into the hot wok with oil and while stirring gently, garlic was added to fry for a minute. Rice was then added and fry together, followed by adding the chicken thigh cubes.

Finally Lee Kum Kee Teriyaki Marinade and soy sauce were added to the fried rice and mixed well.

That’s how teriyaki fried rice was made. It’s optional to season with salt and pepper.

Serve the teriyaki fried rice into the bento and add the necessary garnish. Voila!

It’s easy except for the cutting and chopping. Don’t forget to prepare the right size and shape of bento container.

Chicken Thigh Teriyaki Sandwich

Well well well, this was the easiest recipe to follow!

We’re given all the necessary ingredients, sauces and tools. We just had to come up with a sandwich, and made use to the Lee Kum Kee Tomato Ketchup to create motif.

This was the “sample” plate for us to inspire.

This was what I came up with! There wasn’t much space for me to draw motif or even to write a name. So I used the carrot cube and Tomato Ketchup to create a 3D effect on the Hello Kitty ribbon. I also used the Tomato Ketchup to draw whiskers on the Hello Kitty’s face. LOL!

The main ingredient inside the sandwich was the marinated chicken thigh was left over from the Teriyaki Fried Rice. Not bad right, food wasn’t wasted this way.

Other ingredients are the green peas, carrot, Japanese cucumber slices, thinly sliced fresh onion, mixed salad leaf, butter, Japanese Mayonnaise.

More delish food which can be cooked using the Lee Kum Kee Teriyaki Marinade.

I’m a noob when comes to cooking, but the cookery class by Lee Kum Kee were very informative, interesting and fun. I’m keeping the recipe for my own cooking sessions!

Lee Kum Kee Teriyaki Marinade and Tomato Ketchup are available at Cold Storage and Giant supermarkets.

Body slimming, we all know what it’s all about. To many of us, it’s a process of controlled dieting with less carb, less fried food, less oil, more exercise, more sleep, sufficient intake of fruits and water, and the list goes on. Sounds easy but it’s forever hard to achieve and/or maintain.

Looking for an easy way out to achieve some weight loss?

They guarantee a 5kg fat loss upon signing a full package of 15 sessions. It’s pretty obvious that there’s no way to lose significant result in just one session. Even if there is, it’s only a temporary one, be it on the face or body. So signing up a package to have a guaranteed 5kg fat loss is quite a good deal, isn’t it?

Metabolite Wellness Treatment is a natural and non-invasive treatment which redefine my body wellness.

I’m still on breastfeeding on my coming to 10-months-old little one, so I’m definitely not taking any external medication or invasive body treatment that may affect my breastmilk quality.

And when I was invited to try out Metabolite Wellness Treatment, I realized it’s suitable for those who are looking at post-natal massage too. Though I’m outside the post-natal treatment window frame, no harm doing it again after 6 months, perhaps it may just help to get rid of any water retention in my body, I thought.

So I made my way down to their Ang Mo Kio outlet for my 30-minute Metabolite Wellness Treatment.

I met Hazel, the daughter of the lady boss, Mary of iBeauty Medispa, for a quick consultation on my health condition like percentage of body fats, BMI etc. Based on measurement, I was in a healthy range and there’s no need for me to lose any fat, despite I’m still 5 Kg away from my prepregnancy weight, and have even upsized to size M, cannot fit into 80% of my clothes, and all of my jeans!

My main concern was my bulging tummy and thicker thighs, and so my therapist performed more pressing and kneading movements on my tummy and thighs during my treatment.

No machine was involved. Only their special cream was used during the pressing and kneading steps.

During the treatment

My whole body went through a series of massaging and kneading to unblock and stimulate the 106 meridian points on the body.

This 30-minute Metabolite Wellness Treatment helps to increase basal metabolism and blood circulation.

The massaging and kneading help to minimize fat cells size and improves mobility of fat cells being drained through the lymphatic system.

My therapy was very nice enough to ask me if I was able to withstand the strength she used on me. I think that’s good customer service, and sort of assured me that I was well-taken care of.

Metabolite Wellness Image

For my back, cupping was used on me. It’s my first time I was worried of the pain and heat. Surprisingly, it’s not as scary as I thought.

Cupping wasn’t very painful as my therapy was swift and accurate. It was only towards the end of the last few cupping that I felt the heat was too hot on me and also a little pain when the “cupping moves” along my back. But all’s bearable and it was done very fast.

After the treatment

I was told by Hazel that my body will be having cell activity for the next 24 hours after my treatment. Cell activity like a silent metabolic activity. I find this true and effective on me. My digestive system seems to be doing well for the next two days.

The treatment is also said to be reduce craving for starchy and high carb food. I didn’t notice any difference in myself, but I know after my treatment, for the rest of the day, I only had light dinner despite skipping my lunch.

I didn’t feel myself becoming less heavier, neither did I saw my tummy flattened. Bear in my mind, this was only my first and one session.

To really see good results, one has to go through a consecutive sessions like 3 times a week, and follow their simple customized diet menu which can be easily prepared.

Body wellness covers improvement in blood circulation, good sleeping habit, regular healthy meals. All these lead to reduction in unwanted fats and weight issue. Finally lesser risk of getting hypertension, high blood pressure, high cholesterol etc.

So, being fat doesn’t mean eating less and exercising are the solutions. Getting the right method in improving blood circulation and treatment to our body can also help in a way.

Trial and Package

The Metabolism Wellness Treatment is available at iBeauty Medispa.

First Trial is available at S$100 (Usual Price S$250) for a 30-minute full treatment.

Guaranteed 5 Kg fat loss upon signing of full package of 15 sessions at S$2000.

In Search Of A Flawless Finish

Movie stars have it on the red carpet, celebrities have it in TV appearances and on the paparazzi pictures . . . even newsreaders and TV presenters have it. So there might be a few “fashion faux pas” and even the odd “nipple slip” (the “side boob” is apparently a good thing) but one thing they all have in common when they hit the spotlight – a flawless complexion.

So how do they do it . . . or more to the point how do their make-up artists do it?
It’s not rocket science but it is rather clever – it’s all thanks to airbrush makeup. An airbrush kit is a jet wand which emits a fine spray / mist of foundation to sit evenly upon the skin creating a flawless complexion by minimizing imperfections leaving the skin looking radiant, poreless and natural. The effects are fabulous without that heavy “caked on makeup” problem – no lines, no smudges or smears . . . just perfection.

Professional makeup artists and beauticians have been applying this type of airbrush makeup for many years but these days you don’t have to pay a professional to do it for you – you can buy your airbrush makeup kit to use at home – they’ve got a great range at thesalonoutlet.com to give you the general idea.

Airbrush kits are surprisingly affordable – some costing less than $70 but the finish you get is worth a million dollars with just a little practice. Anybody can do it – just think if your boyfriend can airbrush his car and get a smooth, shiny, flawless finish then you can surely learn to airbrush your face using the same techniques. It does take a little practice but once you’ve got the knack you’ll wonder why you ever managed without it. Airbrushed foundation feels incredibly light, soft and is “barely there”.

When you purchase your airbrush kit you’ll have to buy the special make-up to go with it. You simply mix together the different colors of liquid pigments to make the perfect match, much thinner than the traditional crème foundation. Simply mix the different colors together until you match your skin tone then place the liquid into the vial which is connected to the fine tipped wand – hold this wand a few inches from your face (6 or 7 inches is about the best), close your eyes and spray the airbrush in small, circular motions which helps to avoid streaks and blotches.

You might want to get well covered (your hair, clothes and surrounding area) before you have your first go with a new airbrush kit but you’ll soon discover how to make the minimum amount of mess.

It may take a while before you get the hang of it but do hang in there, particularly if you’re the kind of girl of many talents who can pop a pair of false eyelashes into perfect position in just a few seconds – even if your first attempts took ages and looked more like a spider had fallen from your hairline.

Do remember to clean your airbrush applicator after use or the wand can get clogged up with the makeup creating problems for future use.

And that’s all there is to it . . . creating the perfect flawless foundation quickly and easily with the minimum amount of time, fuss and mess. Practice on yourself, practice on your friends (there’s no risk of infection from sharing this type of makeup because you don’t actually touch anything) practice on anything until you get it just right. You’ll be so glad you did.

Bon Appetit! Penny University

Here’s another popular cafe, Penny University, where all-day brunch is served.

Despite the small variety of food here, Penny University tends to be very crowded from noon onwards. Long queue is expected on weekends, no reservation is allowed. So we have to go really early inorder to chop a table.

There’s no table number, food is served based on order queue number.

I’m on breastfeeding, so I could only have Hot Chocolate. I wish there are more caffeine-free drinks, or even decaf coffee!

Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon $14. I’m impressed by the sourdough toasts. They were crispy and not too thick or hard. Poached eggs were not the best which I’ve tried, but for a $14 Eggs Benedict, this was reasonable.

For the non-preferred smoked salmon food goers, Eggs Benedict with Turkey Ham is perhaps a good alternative.

If only the fresh veg salad comes in a bigger portion. For the first time, I quite like the greens.

Turkish Eggs $8. Adventurers food goers may want to try poached eggs on lightly whipped yogurt Turkish Eggs look kind of plain, but additional toppings like smoked chicken, turkey ham and smoked salmon options are available.

Surprisingly the brunch was so full that 3 of us could only take in 1 piece of Red Velvet cake. We wanted to try at least 3 cakes!

This Red Velvet cake definitely tasted much more better than TheTiramisuHero’s! Gosh, I still cannot forget that rubbery taste. =/

My girlfriends commented it’s too moist, but to me, I like it. So it’s really up to individual’s preference.

If only our main courses weren’t so full, we would get to try more cakes! I shall revisit Penny University one day!

Goodbye 2013

It’s the last day in 2013 and I’m so looking forward to see what’s happening in 2014!

I am looking after Hazel currently before maternity leave ends, and so I am still too busy to blog regularly. No time to even prepare the pictures for upload. But I do blog everyday at Dayre, overthere, it’s all about Hazel. I took at least one photo of my little one everyday. I want to keep lotsa memories of Hazel before I return to work. By then, I won’t get to see her everyday like now, so having Dayre sure helps to fix my love-sick of Hazel.

My life in 2013 had been very boring ever since I found out I was 6 weeks pregnant before CNY. During my 10 months pregnancy, I had nowhere to go due to morning sickness and tiredness. I was also too lazy to blog, rejected quite a number of blogger events invites. I was also deprived from many kind of food and drinks during this period.

I missed travelling and staycations. The only trip I had was a shopping trip (for baby items) to BKK in April. The only beauty event I attended was with Elizabeth Arden on their launch fragrance, UNTOLD.

After which I delivered my baby girl (named Hazel) in September, had confinement and spent quality time with her everyday.

Still, I had little time for myself, my blog, my husband, and my friends. Everyday it’s all about Hazel.

I feel thankful to have Hazel coming into my life, she has brought tonnes of laughter (and nonsense) to my family. I am always so eager to witness her milestones everyday, from making her first baby language to licking everything that’s near her lips.

I had breastfeeding and I never thought I was so hardworking to wake up twice in the middle of the night to pump milk for her. I still remembered the first time I held her on my chest, giving her direct latch to my nipples. Those few sessions when she sucked so hard that I went OUCH!

Despite my absence to meet up with friends, I’m glad they still remember me. The only event when I saw so many friends was on Haze’s full month. I didn’t know Hazel was so POPULAR to have so many guests came. Hubby and I were too busy to even snap pictures. *regrets*

Though on this countdown I can’t go anywhere because I need to look after Hazel, I’m happy Hubby is keeping me accompany, and together with Hazel. Bro is with GF of course, Mum is working on night shift but Dad is back from work. So it’s still cozy to countdown at home tonight.

Ending this blogpost with a short clip of my baby girl’s photos since her childbirth.

She just turned 100-day-old two days ago! It’s also my wedding monthniversary but no celebration la, where got time.
