[Food Tasting Session] BIG Feast at Nando’s @ 112 Katong!

After the Bloggers Tour at 112 Katong, I joined everyone for a big feast at Nando’s!

I love the cosiness inside the restaurant. It sure gives me the comfort of loud chatting and be my own trueself. However, depends on where the seat is, the seat where I had taken, the blasting aircon above the ceiling made me feel cold at times.

Nando’s serves very fresh and tasty chicken, with secret recipe spicy sauces, Peri-Peri (comes with different different spicy level!) to serve with the meat.

The moment we sat down, we were served with a range of specially concocted drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic).

There are a wide variety of food to cater to everyone!

That’s not all! Every meal completes with desserts!

Here are what we were treated!

Starting with appetizer!

Salad to freshen up our taste buds!

Side dish like wedges is a must-try!

Main course was 4 different flavoured delicious chicken meat!

The chicken meat was very tender and it was very well-cooked. There’s no dryness in the meat, gravy on the chicken skin is yum yum! YES! I ate the skin! LOL

I was given a voting card to vote for my favourite taste!

I was super full during this feast prepared by Nando’s. But nothing could stop me from trying out their desserts!

They tasted awesome!

Cheesecake! I personally feel, the cheesecake would have tasted better without the caramel. Yep, I am not a fan of caramel though I have very sweet tooth.

The next time when you are wondering where to gather friends for a meal and hours of talk, think of Nando’s! =)

112 Katong Mall – The Peranakan-themed Mall

End of last year, I joined Jacelyn for an exclusive Bloggers Tour at 112 Katong Mall, located at 112 East Coast Road.

I’m quite impressed by this newly renovated mall which gives me a very cosy feel the moment I stepped in.

112 Katong is definitely a luxury shopping mall which is bringing the east side residents of SG another choice of dining, shopping and entertainment for the young and old, and everyone in the family.

112 Katong has its unique design in both the interior and exterior of the buillings. The LED lights on the building illuminate 112 Katong like a “Jewel of the East”. Its carpets walkway gives me a quiet and cost environment for shopping. I felt like a guest instead of a shopper.

Number of Levels at 112 Katong:

Basement 2 & 3 are carparks.

Basement 1, Level 1 to 5 are retail shops (Dine, Shop, Entertainment)

Level 4 is a rooftop with an open-spaced wet playground and a gigantic movie screen.

This wet playground is the perfect place for the kids to spend their time while the mother goes ahead with some serious shopping! =)

One of the many plus points at 112 Katong is its world’s first Peranakan-themed cinema by Golden Village. It consists of 8 cinema halls including 2 Gold Class halls and a Gold Class Lounge.

For the kids, there is this “brain-building” toy shop called Zero 2 Six. It has a wide variety of brainstorming toy games to strengthen the younger ones’ thinking and analyzing.

There is an educational centre inside 112 Katong, specially to enhance the learning skills for the young ones. It caters for age 0~6.

Toddlers can get to learn how to play by themselves or together with other kids. They get to grow and learn together in groups, conducted by professionals.

See how convenience this is? Parents get to shop for grocery and home necessities at ease while their kids are enjoying and taken care by professional guardians!

There is also an apparel shop for kids! The outfits in this shop are pretty and chic!

Parents may even get to find some of the kids outfits similar to their own!

And for most of the us, Watsons is like one of the most patronized convenience store, even when there’s nothing need to buy. For me, I just love going into the store to check “what’s new” there!

And when there’s a need to get some gifts at the last minute, fred not. Gift (it is almost full of Hello Kitty!) is available at 112 Katong!

And if you need a gift for the guys.. wine may sound a good idea!

As for food.. woah! This new mall is like a food paradise which has many different cuisine and another dining experience.

For the chinese cuisine lovers… besides the chinese cuisine, don’t forget to check out their bakery section.

Interesting restaurant name: Xiao La Jiao (in English: Chilli Padi). I bet it sells spicy food? That will be good news for hot and spicy lovers.

Korean food lovers alert! Indulge yourself in Korean food at this nice and comfy atmosphere restaurant! =D

For shabu shabu lovers (like me), don’t miss Suki-Ya! It’s one of my favourite shabu shabu buffet!

And if you like Alfresco dining, hehe, 112 Katong has it too!

112 Katong has the needs for everyone and is good hangout place for family and friends. After joining Jacelyn for this Bloggers Tour, I am sure to visit this new mall again and again. Finally a new fun place to hangout for east side residents!

My Scalp Treatment Experience at TrichoKare – it was HEAVEN!

TK TrichoKare is a holistic hair and scalp care centre that provides European herbal hair remedies, catering for all hair conditions. TK TrichoKare uses European herbs and natural plant extracts in their treatments and haircare products. Dealing with hairloss issue is one of the expertises at TK TrichoKare.

Professional Herbalists from TK TrichoKare came up with remedies and formulations of the premium European herbs like Burdock, Horsetail, Sage, Leopard’s Bane etc, to target on various hair problems like dandruff, hairloss, itchy scalp, oily scalp etc. Ingredients are carefully picked to achieve optimum results on every customer.

Their remedies and formulations follow a stringent laboratory standard regulation which is certified by Trichologists. Products which are used at TrichoKare are only pure extracts from plants and herbs, which are meant to nourish the hair and scalp.

Consultation was given before the treatment. Mainly scanning and checking on my scalp. I had about 4 snapshots of my scalp conditions shown to me. My consultant also gave me an easily understandable explanation on how the hair grows, the root cause to my hair loss and oily scalp. It seemed that I had got very oily scalp and some of my hair pores were clogged, which prevented nutrients from flowing in, and hence no new hair growth. Lack of nutrients also causes my current hair to turn weak, and that explains the hair fall and hair thinning issue.

After the consultation, I was brought to another room where I could have my hair treatment done.

I personally feel TrichoKare emphasizes alot on customer’s comfort and privacy. Every seat had a partitioned panel. There’s no worry about feeling embarrassed or unglamorous.

Hair washing area at TrichoKare looks very cosy. The ambiance, interior design and service made my hair washing so relaxing that I could fall asleep.I was offered blanket to keep myself warm. That’s very nice! Each time a rising is required, a new blanket was given. Very clean and hygienic salon.

In this treatment, a deep cleansing shampoo was used. It was a mint shampoo. I called it mint shampoo because it gave my scalp a cooling sensation during shampoo-ing.

My Therapist towel-dried my hair and applied hot mask in the next step.

This Hot mask was like a detox product, it was supposed to remove the excess oil on my scalp, and at the same time define my hair pore for a better hair growth.

Hot mask was in green solution, (I bet it’s because of the European Herbs). My scalp felt like cool and minty. After application, leave on for 5 minutes. Then rinse and apply conditioner.

Even during hair rinsing, my Therapist tried to untangle my hair very gently. She took the imitative to ask me if I was alright with her strength which was really comfortable on me.

My therapist was very professional and gentle. She knew what she was doing. Throughout my treatment, my Therapist would let me know what the next step she was going to perform on me, and what products she was applying.

So after the conditioning and rinsing, I was back to my seat. It was time to apply the hair tonic.

Drying the scalp was a must before tonic application. Drying scalp was done by hair dryer, at a warm temperature. Hair tonic was applied all over my scalp, but main focus was on my head top and crown area. Tonic bottle has spraying nozzle, easy to use. Daily use can last about half a month.

Here comes the most pleasing and enjoying session.

A warm pack was placed on my shoulders to keep them relaxed. My Therapist gave me 2 rounds of head/neck/shoulders massage after applying the tonic!

When it was time to dry hair, hair oil/lotion was applied to my hair ends to protect the heat from hair dryer.

The drying was a simple one, but I noticed the gentleness in my Therapist, I could see she really tried to take good are of my hair.

Protein was then applied on my hair before the Infrared treatment.

Infrared treatment was to improve the blood circulation in my head, and also to ensure that the tonic was further penetrated deep down to my hair roots, underneath the scalp.

I was done when the Infrared treatment ended. I returned to the consultation room and did another scan check on my scalp. One immediate result was improvement in a more defined pore on my scalp. There were also less clogged pores as compared to my scan before the treatment.

I felt good after the session, there was no sign of itchiness or irritation. My scalp felt clean and fresh. =)

One plus point for TrichoKare’s service. Their Therapists provides 100% focus, 1-to-1 personal service to every customer.

When I was told that my leave-on would be 5 minutes, it was really 5 minutes. There was no case like while doing my leave-on, she would attend to another customer, which tend to delay herself in attending me. (Happened to me at another salon, total disappointment, I had to wait for 20 mins for her to finish doing another customer before coming back to me!) But no for TrichoKare, there was not a single minute that I had to wait for my Therapist. When my 5 minutes leave-on was up, my Therapist attended to my punctually. Every therapist has a timer to time their customers, I guess this make the service deserved to be praised.

[Food Tasting Session] Authentic Thai Gourmet at Ah Loy Thai

When I talk about Thai food, my tongue starts to “itch”. LOL.

“Itch” as in, it is craving for hot and spicy, sweet and sour food, and my saliva begins to drool~

There are quite a number of Thai restaurants in SG but when comes to authentic Thai cuisine, I must recommend everyone Ah Loy Thai.

I was brought to Ah Loy Thai a year ago. Back then, it was quite a small restaurant, many times, customers would have to queue and wait.

On my 2nd trip to Ah Loy Thai sometime ago, the restaurant has expanded. Ah Loy Thai took over the adjacent unit, which has more tables catering to big groups. Gosh, the new place was spacious!

I must say, dining in groups at Ah Loy, is like having a King and Queen, Princes and Princesses BIG feast! Imagine a long table full of meat, fishes, different green food, appetizers, side dishes and the list goes on.

In a Thai cuisine, there are two drinks which are like a must-order drink:
Left: Homemade Thai Lemon Grass ($2.30)
Right: Traditional Thai Milk Red Tea ($2)

There were ALOT of dishes for us to pick!

Together with other bloggers and Elfaine, founder of The Sample Store, our feast started off with the highly popular Papaya Salad.

Papaya Salad ($5.30), my all-time favourite appetizer in Thai cuisine. Love its super spiciness from the chilli padi!

Ah Loy Thai Fried Butter Calamari ($7) is a must-try! Must eat it while it’s hot to enjoy the crispiness and juiciness. Very chewy ya!

Tom Yum Seafood ($6.90), seafood and spicy hot lovers, don’t miss this dish! Serves in claypot to maintain its hotness, be sure to satisfy your tongue’s taste bud for some fresh seafood with spicy shiok!

Thai Green Curry ($6.50) is also one of the popular dishes at Ah Loy Thai. What’s Thai food without green curry?? I dig the gravy which is thick and smell nice boneless chicken meat!

Pineapple Fried Rice ($5.90) was one of the dishes we tried. It comes with generous pieces of fresh prawns, other than that, it’s really a normal fried rice, with scrambled eggs and cubes of luncheon meat. The pineapple was very little, I hardly tasted any. The overall taste was a little bland, I’ll still prefer the pineapple rice which is yellow and served with pork floss and lotsa pineapple! =)

Tom Yum Fried Rice ($6.90), is only available from 3 to 6pm. The tom yum taste is a little bland, but i like the spiciness, save my hassle of adding balachan! =)

For pork, we had Thai Garlic Pork (($6.90), another must-try side dish! The garlic has made the pork meat so delicious that this dish was finished at one go! There isn’t alot of fatty layers above the meat, no worry about getting sick of it because it’s cooked with minimum oiliness.

If you like more crispy side dishes, Thai mango crispy chicken ($7.50) is a good choice. The crispiness of the chicken skin , the sweet sour juice from the mango, will make you want to eat one piece after another!

Thai Pandan Chicken ($9), one of the common dishes in Thai Cuisine. I have tried it at a few other Thai restaurants, most of the times, I had problem removing the pandan leaves using fork and spoon, always ended up with using fingers. At Ah Loy Thai, somehow, the chicken was wrapped with pandan leaves in such a manner that, just needs to pull out the folder pandan leaf with a fork, and the chicken meat can be easily scooped out. So much convenient to eat without dirtying the hands!

I believe the number one highly ordered soup in Thai cuisine is tom yum soup. But if you will like to try something different, Tom Yum Thai Style Fish Clear Soup ($6) at Ah Loy Thai is the ONE! This is a choice for those who can’t take spicy but will like to try tom yum soup. It has no additional spiciness added, just the tom yum taste alone, sour and very minimal spiciness.Other than the fresh sliced fish, there are additional seafood in the soup! Very tasty and sure to open up your appetite.

At Ah Loy Thai, there are also some fish dishes to choose from. We had two steamed fish that day.

Thai Lemon Fish ($13.50) is one of their latest dish invention. It has this light lemon taste to make the fish smells even more fresher.

Thai Lemon Grass Steam Fish ($13.50), fresh fish meat with light lemon grass fragrance.

These two big fishes really give me the shock of the day, too much to finish! As if the lady boss had thought we were still hungry, we were treated with 3rd fish dish!

Thai Crispy Spicy Sauce Fish ($12) comes with lotsa of chilli, i LIKE! Love its crispy skin, crunchy!

There was a Black Pepper Crispy Fish ($14.50), a new dish at Ah Loy Thai, but I didn’t have the chance to try it. Basically, it is pretty similar to the Thai Crispy Spicy Sauce Fish, just that for this one, it’s on black pepper sauce, with added tomatoes, spring onions and peeled onions.

For vegetables, we tried two dishes. Fried Kailan and Fried Sweet Potato Leaf. Both are available in spicy and non-spicy.

Fried Kailan, love its crunchiness!

Fried Sweet Potato Leaf is well fried, not soggy at all!

Another two more yummy stir-fried basil leaf dishes , yummy enough to eat with plain rice!

Stir-fried RED Basil Leaf with Chicken ($5.80)

Stir-fried RED Basil Leaf with Pork ($5.80)

Other than chicken and pork, this dish is also available with seafood and beef! Yum yum!

You’ll prolly wonder what’s with the RED and WHITE in the dishes names. It’s actually referring to the sauce used for stir-frying. For the white sauce, i doubt it’s really in white, it’s probably in transparent with non-spiciness.

Other than ordering the usual glass noodle in Thai Cuisine, you may want to check out the Thai Fried Kway Teow (Phad Thai) ($5.90) at Ah Loy Thai. The portion maybe a little too much if you are ordering alot of side dishes, so do prepare to order it and share with others ya! Do eat it while it’s hot, it tends to turn soggy and less tasty when turns cold.

My scalp feels uber cooling during shampooing!

The cooling sensation didn’t come immediately during shampooing. Infact, it was like after 10 minutes of massaging, just before I wanted to rinse my hair, I began to feel the cooling minty sensation on my scalp.

It’s a pity the cooling sensation was not very strong, else my scalp would have felt very cooling and refreshing!

As for the scent from the shampoo, there wasn’t any nice scent. But it made my scalp and hair felt very clean after rinsing.

After towel-drying my hair, my hair was very manageable, easy to comb even without using a hair conditioner. I then let my hair dried by itself under the ceiling fan. On and off I would use my fingers to brush through my hair, I could feel the smoothness on my hair strands, there was no hair entanglement.

It’s a pity there wasn’t any nice scent.

Shampooing with Female CLEAR Anti Hair Fall shampoo…

There were alot of foams during foaming. I took about an amount slightly less than a 50-cent coin for my long hair. Very easy to massage on my scalp, I enjoyed massaging my scalp and spent about 10 minutes doing that. =)

Its fragrance was very light, there wasn’t any long-lasting scent after shampooing. My scalp and hair felt clean and light. I washed my hair without a conditioner because I wanted to see what’s the softeness level this Anti Hair Fall shampoo could have on my fine hair.

Well, in terms of softness after shampooing, i give 5 out of 5!

I had no problem combing my hair, trying to separate the entangled strands under a towel-dried hair condition.

I let my hair dried by itself before heading to bed. he next morning when I woke up……………………………….

My hair turned out to be extremely extremely soft and smooth! Too bad there wasn’t any nice scent on it. After a few hours leaving the house, my hair became a little fluffy, looked slightly volumized but naturally good.

I am quite satisfied with the results (except the scent) the two shampoo gave to my hair.

His Trial ‘n’ Thoughts

For himself, he had no preferences on choosing shampoo. What he’s looking for was one which could really clean and care for the scalp and hair. So far, those scalp-care shampoo which he tried, were pretty drying for his hair. Each time he tried, his hair felt coarse and dry, the hair tend to look dull over time. He practically given up hope in choosing a good shampoo, which was why he had no preferences at all.

When I passed him the two bottles scalp-care shampoo from CLEAR, he tried on his hair as per normal.

The minty sensation and menthol scent from the Cool Sport Menthol shampoo was not bad. The scent was like cologne, very different from the fruity or floral scent found in other shampoo.

Same thoughts as me, the hair felt very smooth and manageable after towel-dried. No combing was needed for him!

For Anti Hair Fall, he didn’t feel anything on his scalp and hair. He had no hair fall issue, but no harm for him to try it on his scalp right. As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure!

He reviewed to me the only difference was, he felt his scalp was cleaner than before, as compared to using his old shampoo. Same sentiments as me!

I quite like this new range of shampoo from CLEAR. Nutrium10 seems to be a introducing good care to my scalp. Even when no conditioner is used, my hair turns smooth, entangle-free, very manageable.

For my guy, he find the scent not bad, something not commonly found in other shampoo, which are mainly for unisex use.

Foot Reflexology at Jean Yip Loft

Few weeks after my body massage at Jean Yip Loft, I went back to have my foot reflexology.

This time I had my treatment at another level at Jean Yip Loft. This level was more on mani/pedi and a room specially for foot reflexology.

The ambiance was good. I enjoyed my treatment under the serenity around me.

I was told to have my feet soaked for a few minutes. Foot soaking was done at the mani/pedi seats.

The whole treatment was about 60 minutes, quite pretty reasonable duration for a foot reflexology.

After soaking, I was brought to another room which had dim lighting to have my foot reflexology. My therapist was a guy, and I had no problem with that.

He took some massage cream and spread onto my feet and calves. No massage tool was used, every point pressed on my soles was done using his fingers and hands. His strength was okay for me.

At some point of time, there were a few painful presses but still bearable and my therapist changed his presses very fast before the pain stayed on.

Toes were also included in the treatment.

This is not the first time I am having foot reflexology. Previously (at elsewhere), foot reflexology left my feet feeling oily after the session.

The massage cream was very moisturizing! It softened the dead skin cells and cracks on my toes and soles! My cuticles looked as if they had just finished a classic pedicure!

Surprisingly this time at Jean Yip Loft, my feet didn’t feel oily but refreshing as if they were ready for more shopping walks!

I was like enjoying life while relaxing myself at the lounge after my treatment. Facing the full length glass windows, looking at the buzzing streets downstairs, surfing net on mobile, browsing the magazines while enjoying my desserts and drinks.

My complimentary desserts and tea. The staff was nice enough to ask me for a second serving while waiting for my mum to finish her body massage.

Mum came out from her body massage, feeling great as well. We then headed to town for some shopping!

… thanks to our rejuvenated mind, body and feet, we spent heavily.

Finally managed to post up my review after using it for weeks!

Back to the my review on the Impact Lash Volume and Wide Eyes mascaras…

Just like any other mascara, brush the mascara base on my eyelashes..

I started off with the new Mascara Base, which has got mascara fibers in white. I just applied a few coats on my lashes. Didn’t feel anything, the fibers didn’t fall on my face, messy-free.

After the mascara base, it’s the Impact Lash Volume mascara. I usually apply Volume mascara before any other mascara.

This volumizing mascara consists of 2 difference thickness on the bristles which helps to create a volumizing effect.

Upon application, there will be an increase in the illumination on each and every lash.

For Impact Lash Mascara (Volume), its brush comes in a curved extrafine fiber brush. The inward curve fits the eye curve and tries to reach each and every lash. The outward curve consists of wide-pitched fibers to give lash tip a clump-free and fine finish. As for the tip of the brush, it has shorter bristle to reach for the the corner lashes and shorter lashes like the bottom eyelashes.

I always believe that inorder to create lengths, I will need to volumize my eyelashes so that more lengthening mascara can then be applied on the thick lash strands from the volume.

Application
Step 1. Use the inward curve to brush upwards (in zig zag motion) from the roots to the tip of the upper eyelashes.
Step 2. Use the outward curve to comb lashes from the roots to the tip of the eyelashes, so as to separate the lashes in a fan shape.
Repeat Step 1 & 2 to increase the volume of lashes.
Step 3. Use tip of brush to apply the corner lashes and bottom lashes.

After doing with the Impact Lash Volume mascara, to give the eyelashes a more define/dramatic effect, follow up with a lengthening or Wide Eyes mascara.

To give a fan out look, Wide Eyes Mascara is the one!

This Wide Eyes mascara is meant to separates lashes finely and creates a beautiful fan-out effect.

Its glossy coat oil gives a lustrous effect to lashes.

It has a double comb! The extrafine pitch coil, and the extra small jaggy comb, together they help to create the wide fan-like effect on the lashes!

The Extra small jaggy coil basically coats a generous amount of mascara on the lashes, and because of the coil design, even short lashes and lashes which are hard to reach can be easily coated.

The Extra fine pitch comb separates each lash and spreads the mascara which was previously coated by the coil for a neat, fan-out and non-clumpy finish.

Application
Step 1. Use the Extra small jaggy coil to apply mascara from the roots to the tip of the upper eyelashes.
Step 2. Use tip of bristles to reach difficult corners and short lashes.
Step 3. Use the Extra fine pitch comb to create the fan-out effect.

The more coats you apply, the more dramatic the effects will be and you can skip your falsies!

I didn’t apply a lot of coats here as I was in rush for work. But from side and top views, my eyelashes are prominent enough to catch some attentions from colleagues.

The best of all, it’s smudge-proof, no worries even though I’ve got oily eyelids!
